A different kind of street art – have you seen the colourful paste-ups by “The Postman Art” in Camden and around Brick Lane? Nelson Mandela, Elvis, Prince or Amy Winehouse have received a make-over and are pasted onto walls in the City. I discovered their works at the beginning of 2019 and I am super happy that the artists agreed to answer some questions for the “Meet the Londoner” section. Enjoy reading the interview with the Postman Art!

Hello The Postman Art

Who are you?

We are an ever growing collective of artist based in the Uk, Miami, LA etc. – unfortantely that’s all we are willing to share on that.

What do you like about posting your work in London?

We like to give people an alternative to advertising, something nice to look at that may put a smile on their faces.

Why paste-ups?

Most of the work is done at home, quick and easy to put up. Also much easier to travel with than for example spray. Plus the work is even more temporary as paper doesn’t last that long on the streets.

How do you choose the celebrity for the paste-up?

We choose who ever we feel like doing at the time. Sometimes we get inspired by certain events or places or other people we work with.

How do you divide the work between you?

Whoever is free does a bit here and there, quite sporadically.

Which message do you want to share with your works?

Well its pop art with a punk twist. Old iconic image with a new element. Bright colours. The message can be interpreted by everyone as they feel like.

When did you start with your paste-ups?

We started only a year ago, summer of 2018.

Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?

Ha! If we could say that now the journey would be boring. But we hope in 5 years people still enjoy seeing our work.

What was the best advice you were ever given?

Go and do this.
